This battery has increased my Pavilion dv4's run time from 3 to 6 hours- using similar usage patterns as best as I could. It weighs 1.5 pounds so adds not quite double the weight of the original battery. It does stick out the back a bit but is not objectionable. It can be charged when out of the computer by plugging in the 125V power supply to a socket on the battery. It doesn't come with it's own charger. The power meter is a small white LED window with 4 lights that light when pushed to show 1-2-3 or four lights to signify state of charge.

I am a college student and use my laptop for all of my notes in class. Most of the time, there are no outlets to charge the laptop while I'm sitting there typing so I must rely on the battery lasting me throughout the day. I have a very high demand, high energy laptop and the battery lasts me through four classes without recharging, which is approximately from 930am to 315pm (6 hours) and there's a little extra battery at the end of classes. Not to mention, I can use my original battery while I'm charging the extended battery through the port built into the side. It was a great buy and a must have as a computer accessory. -- Important Addition

Finally, I can get through my presentations without an extension cord. This battery is truly amazing, it slips right onto the existing battery slot of my HP laptop and lasts 8hrs. I would recommend this to anyone. -- HP Extended Life laptop Battery

this battery runs a good 5-7hr on my new compaq the old 6 cell ran 1.5 to 2.5 hr and kill me but this is a much bigger battery too stick out at the bottom of lab top and gives you a slite tilt but is nice when your typing and has a net battery light check button plus you can charge it out side you pc alone with a chager no pc need it nice -- 12cell hp or compaq laptop battery

Overall, I'm thoroughly satisfied. The build quality is excellent. The latch is strong enough that when I use it as a handle to pull it out of my case it has never come off or complained.

Battery life seems excellent, though I have not conducted any formal experiments. With the original battery my HDX shipped with (5,500 Mw) I seemed to get under an hour of gaming on battery, and almost two hours of work in "Battery Saver" mode. I have used this Extended Battery at a client's office from morning to late afternoon on "Balanced Mode" and was still around 25% at the end of the day.

The added height puts the keyboard at a very comfortable position, and some could claim that the elevation increases airflow and assists the fans in cooling the internal components.

The rubber feet assist in reducing sliding (as one would expect). I guess the nicest surprises are 1.) the Battery Charge-level Indicator and 2.) the ability to directly charge this battery from the power supply, without it being in the laptop. The previous feature I was accustomed to from Macbooks and a variety of Dells (though the charge meter on most Dells was not visible while the battery was inserted.) The latter feature; charging directly from the power supply, was something I had never seen before and is incredibly convenient. If I know I only need my laptop for a short time I can install my smaller / lighter battery, yet leave the Extended one charging at home.

At HP's list price I would still recommend this battery, but for the price I got it from Amazon it is a complete no-brainer. I might nab another one so I can work for two full days without an AC Outlet!
